Nov 19, · In the days of Myspace when I said MV & EE action was a jam unit (blues/psychedelic/jam band), people thought I was whacked. There was no irony and I certainly haven’t strayed far from that path. I might’ve chosen “real people” if it was genre. Wooden Wand: Along these lines, MV and EE seem to me a very populist group. EE's vocals, at their most languidly sensual since "freight train", make the latter seem unbearably attractive. the redemptive coda to that and to the album comes with "no there, there", a dense, multi-layered piece where acoustic and electric guitars drift above shifting foundations of bass, lap steel, synth and percussion. its deep kosmische.
Matt Valentine is no stranger to psychedelic sounds. For more than 20 years, Valentine's muse was almost exclusively trippy sprawl, whether that took the form of sunburnt jamming with Tower Recordings, subdued acid folk ragas with MV & EE, or any number of experiments that lived on limited-edition CD-Rs or cassette releases. Valentine's work as a solo artist often took on a relaxed tone.
