Hove's Clearlake have a ragged, very English charm. Their debut, Lido () earned them many high profile friends and from its title down had an out of season seaside atmosphere set off by Jason Pegg's vocals and lyrics. The record was awash in the trademark wistfulness of a chronicler of rainy day moments - the sort of person who goes 'jumblesailing'.
The album title track is a slow storm of string arrangements, percussion, and pianos, accentuating the brooding, fiery colors of Amber. If Clearlake's melodic side is more interesting, songs such as "You Can't Have Me" and "It's Getting Light Outside" are sure fits -- however, Clearlake also showcase a newfound bravado. "Good Clean Fun" and "Here to Learn" saunter through layered electric guitars 8/
