The Hanover Band & Roy Goodman - Schubert: Orchestral Favourites, Vol. 15 () Symphony No. 8 in B Minor, D. I. Allegro moderato Symphony No. 8 in B Minor, D. II. Andante con moto In addition to Schubert’s Overture in The Italian Style that is very rarely performed – with reason, since it doesn’t present.
Overall these are played with great energy and charm, two qualities Schubert would have surely admired. It is a good back up set for those of you who already have a favorite set. To sum it up the Hanover Band under Roy Goodman present some very good performances of Schubert`s symphonies. It's like hearing this music in a whole new light.4/5(5).
Nice collection of Schubert, although, it could have included the other unfinished symphonies and called itself complete. Both orchestras do a supurb job, although they have a very different sounds with the Hanover sounding heavier-dare one say more Germanic. The "unfinished" 8th is the best I've ever heard/5(3).
The first point to note is how much more comprehensive this is than previous cycles, even the outstanding RCA set of period performances from Roy Goodman and the Hanover Band. Gardiner offers both versions of Symphony No 4, and , and his performances of them are very well geared to bringing out the contrasts.
